Unit conversion is a multi-step process that involves multiplication or division by a numerical factor, selection of the correct number of significant digits, and rounding. This multi-step process is presented in NIST SP - (Section ), including a rounding procedure for technical documents, specifications, and other applications   Several of the most commonly needed English-metric conversion factors are listed in Table on the next page. Because the English inch is defined as cm, the number in this value is exact. The numbers in the other conversion factors in Table are not exact. 2Table A.2 in Appendix A shows some useful English-English conversion ://   * SI Units: International System of Units. Note: In the table above the common units and SI units in each row are not equivalent in value, i.e., 1 curie does not equal 1 becquerel, but they both measure the same parameter. This text uses non-SI units in a few applications where they are in very common use, such as the measurement of blood pressure in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).
